Hi everyone,
I thought i had heard alot about puppy farming, but today i read a horrifying story in dogs today magazine. It was about a lady that had brought her puppy 3 years ago from a puppy farm.
The poor dog has and is still suffering to this day. The owner has spent over £23,000 on vet bills trying to relieve her dogs pain and suffering. What an amazing woman to care for her dog so much. There isn't many people out there that would care for their pet the way she has and is still caring for him.
My next horrifying bit of news is that earlier this evening i was on line on pedigree database website. I clicked on the message forum page. The first article that took my eye was headed Pedigree Query. I had a look. A lady had brought a 6 month old labrador puppy from a private seller, when she tried to look into the dogs history e.g breeder, parents and grandparents of the puppy she was struggling to find out who the breeder was. ALARM bells already hey!!!
There was 3 or 4 messages that had, had similar problems, One of these messages stated that their puppy was ill and that they advised people not to buy a puppy from that man.
Then there was 1 message that i just couldnt believe what i was reading. A lady had brought a dog from the same guy as all the other people. She was very happy with her dog and never had any problems and said that it was very unfair that someone could put a message on there to tell people to stop buying puppies from that man. She was also going back to him to get another puppy. I wonder if she knows him personally and is defending him to save his skin???? I wonder hey!!!!
WHY are these terrible puppy farms still allowed to breed puppies in such poor conditions. The animals are the ones that suffer no one else. It completely horrify's me to think that in this day an age that this kind of breeding is allowed.
We are a nation of animal lovers so why do we keep going to these sort of people just to put ourselves and the animals through so much heartache.
I know that buying a puppy/dog is a very precious thing, and I would not be without my gorgeous beautiful girls for one minute. Surely looking into buying a puppy/dog has to be a long thought out process. Then theres selecting the right puppy/dog for you and your family, and making sure that you have the time and energy to take care of your new addition to your family.
So why go to a puppy farm to get your puppy, I know that when you get there you are gonna be greeted well, showed round the best kennels and given the royal treatment. You will be shown different dogs and told that dog is the dad of your pup, another dog and told that is the mum of your pup. You very rarely get to see the dam with her litter, because 9 times out of 10 the pups have been imported or bred in horrible conditions and the owner of the puppy farm can't let you see the conditions they breed in.
Surely if you want a puppy that is going to be part of you and your family, and you want years of pleasure and enjoyment. Save those few extra pennies and buy one from a reputable breeder that only breeds with dogs that have had the current health tests. I know that puppies that are bred properly are that bit more expensive, but hey if you want quality you have to pay for it.
Don't get me wrong buying from a reputable breeder does not guarantee that you wont have to take your puppy to a vet. Cause all puppies are mischievous and get up to all sorts, but buying a puppy from a reputable breeder you would have more peace of mind that your puppy has been given the best possible start in life.
The Kennel Club have started a petition to get rid of puppy farming, why noy use the link and sign the petition. Surely the suffering of dogs has got to stop. We wouldn't have our children in poor conditions and would soon complain if the hospital we were giving birth in was in poor condition.
Will be back in a few days guys
