Puppy Farming

Hi everyone,

I thought i had heard alot about puppy farming, but today i read a horrifying story in dogs today magazine. It was about a lady that had brought her puppy 3 years ago from a puppy farm.

The poor dog has and is still suffering to this day. The owner has spent over £23,000 on vet bills trying to relieve her dogs pain and suffering. What an amazing woman to care for her dog so much. There isn't many people out there that would care for their pet the way she has and is still caring for him.
My next horrifying bit of news is that earlier this evening i was on line on pedigree database website. I clicked on the message forum page. The first article that took my eye was headed Pedigree Query. I had a look. A lady had brought a 6 month old labrador puppy from a private seller, when she tried to look into the dogs history e.g breeder, parents and grandparents of the puppy she was struggling to find out who the breeder was. ALARM bells already hey!!!

There was 3 or 4 messages that had, had similar problems, One of these messages stated that their puppy was ill and that they advised people not to buy a puppy from that man.

Then there was 1 message that i just couldnt believe what i was reading. A lady had brought a dog from the same guy as all the other people. She was very happy with her dog and never had any problems and said that it was very unfair that someone could put a message on there to tell people to stop buying puppies from that man. She was also going back to him to get another puppy. I wonder if she knows him personally and is defending him to save his skin???? I wonder hey!!!!

WHY are these terrible puppy farms still allowed to breed puppies in such poor conditions. The animals are the ones that suffer no one else. It completely horrify's me to think that in this day an age that this kind of breeding is allowed.

We are a nation of animal lovers so why do we keep going to these sort of people just to put ourselves and the animals through so much heartache.
I know that buying a puppy/dog is a very precious thing, and I would not be without my gorgeous beautiful girls for one minute. Surely looking into buying a puppy/dog has to be a long thought out process. Then theres selecting the right puppy/dog for you and your family, and making sure that you have the time and energy to take care of your new addition to your family.

So why go to a puppy farm to get your puppy, I know that when you get there you are gonna be greeted well, showed round the best kennels and given the royal treatment. You will be shown different dogs and told that dog is the dad of your pup, another dog and told that is the mum of your pup. You very rarely get to see the dam with her litter, because 9 times out of 10 the pups have been imported or bred in horrible conditions and the owner of the puppy farm can't let you see the conditions they breed in.

Surely if you want a puppy that is going to be part of you and your family, and you want years of pleasure and enjoyment. Save those few extra pennies and buy one from a reputable breeder that only breeds with dogs that have had the current health tests. I know that puppies that are bred properly are that bit more expensive, but hey if you want quality you have to pay for it.

Don't get me wrong buying from a reputable breeder does not guarantee that you wont have to take your puppy to a vet. Cause all puppies are mischievous and get up to all sorts, but buying a puppy from a reputable breeder you would have more peace of mind that your puppy has been given the best possible start in life.

The Kennel Club have started a petition to get rid of puppy farming, why noy use the link and sign the petition. Surely the suffering of dogs has got to stop. We wouldn't have our children in poor conditions and would soon complain if the hospital we were giving birth in was in poor condition.

Will be back in a few days guys

Heidi and her babies

Hello everyone,

My babies are nearly a week old now and growing rather fast. I thought that you might want to see some pics of them.

I have 2 yellow girls, 1 yellow boy, 2 black girls, 1 black boy and 1 chocolate boy.

Jodie has put an advert on breeders online why not go check the ad out.

They are very demanding and greedy. They never stop suckling i barely get time to go out to the toilet, but jodie always fetches me on a regular basis so that i can relieve myself.

My babies are forever on the move. They never stay still. They scoot across the bed like there's no tomorrow. Sometimes Jodie has to come and get them back when the others are suckling. Poor Jodie she is up and down like a yo-yo. Day and night. She must be shattered. Maybe Jodie should have got that whelping box after all.

Jodie makes sure that I eat well to provide plenty of milk for my babies, and she cleans us out twice a day, so that we are always fresh and that the puppies are of good health.

At the weekend we are having some visitors. They are coming to view my puppies. Can you believe it 4 of my babies were sold before they were even 24 hours old. Is that good going or What? Hopefully when they take one of my babies home they will insure it, just incase of any accidents you know what puppies are like.

I must say though they are lovely pups. I know I am bias, but hey thats what being a parent is all about. If you cant be bias about your own brood, then what can you bias about hehe xxxx

Anyway need to check on my babies and feed them. Yes feed them again. Greedy little monkeys.
Take care everyone

Will blog again soon

9 weeks of waiting

Heidi my yellow labrador has had her litter of puppies.

9 long weeks of waiting and at last they are here. Heidi was mated in feb this year and each week that went by seemed like ages. 4 weeks into her pregnancy i was unsure if she was in pup. The next week she had a little bump. Each week after that, that little bump got bigger.

The last nine weeks seemed to have dragged for me. I magine its been even worse for Heidi. During Heidi's pregnancy she became extremely affectionate, more than normal. Heidi is a very loving dog anyway, but as each week went by she would not leave my side apart from when she was really hot and went to lay on the kitchen floor.

Wed 22nd April 2009 at 5pm Heidi went into labour. She was all over the place panting one minute and in the kitchen the next. Thursday came and she was still the same, no change. At 6:30pm I took Heidi to the vets to get her checked over. Hoping and praying she was ok and nothing was the matter. Vet gave the all clear.

Off home we went. 10pm that night Heidi was having contractions. Great and we're off.
1:10am friday 24th April 2009 the 1st puppy was born. A yellow girl weighing 1lb 20z.
Oh no another on its way, a black girl weighing 1lb 20z.

Heidi had her last puppy at 8:40am and that being a yellow boy. Heidi had 7 babies altogether. I was only expecting 4-5 puppies. 3 yellow, 3 black and 1 chocolate.

What an amazing experience it is to watch some little life's be born into the world.

Heidi's litter of puppies are related to Sandylands Labradors & Rhemacourts Labradors.

Heidi the labrador.

Hello everyone, My name is Heidi, I am a yellow labrador and live with my owner Jodie and the rest of my pack. My best friend is Lolli, she is a chocolate labrador. Lolli is part of our pack.
We love to have fun running across the fields, chasing the butterflies and birds. We never catch any though.

5 days ago I had a litter of puppies, it sure was a shock when I gave birth to a chocolate boy puppy. I was not expecting that. He is lovely though. My owner Jodie likes him too.

I have 7 babies to look after till they go to their new homes, but my owner Jodie is helping me. she is good like that.

Well I must rush to go and feed my brood. Take care everyone, I will update you all on how my babies are doing.
